OUR PROGRAMS
ACE programs were developed following the results of the Baseline survey report conducted in 2021 in the 16 villages that are around the FFF farm. The report highlighted issues of unemployment, low farm productivity, poor farming knowledge and malnutrition, which led to ACE developing 4 programs that aim at solving economic and social challenges facing the community
Developed with a goal of improving productivity of the smallholder farmers through practical training, particularly on fertilizing, conservation farming, and GAP.
After starting this program in 2019, already more than 600 smallholder farmers have increased their yields from 1.5 t/ha to 4.0 t/ha, which also changes their income. Giving priority to value chain productions and access to water, also in combination with mechanization, will lead to more food, better food security, and much higher income for the farmers.
One of the core roles of our training organization is to equip participants with the knowledge and skills that lead to long-term financial success. After receiving free training, we guide them into value chain production, ensuring they not only learn but also apply their skills in ways that generate sustainable income. Through Farm For the Future (FFF), smallholder farmers can access a range of essential services, including mechanization support, quality fertilizers, certified seeds, and modern farming equipment through our agro-dealer services. Our overarching priority in community development is financial empowerment for all participants, with a bold vision: lifting 2,000 Kilolo farmers out of poverty by 2030.
Key priorities include:
Training in Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)
Expanding access to mechanization
Encouraging farmers to purchase high-quality maize seed while offering storage facilities
Training farmers as potato out-growers, supplying them with quality potato seed (once the cold storage facility is operational)
Training farmers as macadamia out-growers, providing them with quality seedlings
YARA KNOWLEDGE CENTRE
With support from Yara Tanzania, SUA, NMBU (Norwegian University of Life Sciences), and SAGCOT, and driven by a lean and committed project management team, the vision moved forward. In April 2018, Farm For the Future Tanzania Ltd. was officially registered as a limited liability company. Ownership was shared between IOP (25%) and international shareholders from Norway, Luxembourg, Tanzania, the USA, and the UK. The company leases the land from IOP, builds its own infrastructure, and prioritizes partnerships with professional local institutions.
The first program was launched in 2019, in line with Government priorities. A program that empowers young mothers through vocational training, financially and socially to become able to provide for herself and her child. The program is based on agriculture and has modules in poultry, horticulture, women's rights, business strategy, communication and nutrition.
Program that aims at fighting against poverty and improving health, by providing poor families with milking goats for milk production. In the package, each family is provided with 2 Norwegian milking goats, which will increase to 5 milking goats after two years. In addition, a solid goat shed, a home garden, a training program, and assistance with caring for the animals for two years. After 2-3 years from starting, those 40 families through their CBO, will be part of a value chain production, delivering 250 liters of goat milk every day to a milk collection station. ASAS, a dairy company in Iringa, is a partner in the project and will buy milk from the families for their production line.
The Children’s Farm Program, is an innovative educational program designed to introduce children to agriculture through hands-on learning experiences. The program aims to bridge the gap between young generations and farming, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of agriculture as a vital sector for food security, economic growth, and sustainable livelihoods.
Through interactive training, practical farming activities, and mentorship, the Children’s Farm facility provides real-life agricultural experiences tailored for young learners. The children’s farm facility serves as a learning hub where children engage in activities such as planting, nurturing, and harvesting crops, as well as caring for farm animals. The program incorporates age-appropriate lessons on sustainable farming techniques, nutrition, and agribusiness, empowering children with essential knowledge and skills.
The program is also a community-driven initiative, involving schools, teachers, parents, and agricultural experts to create a supportive environment where children can develop a passion for farming. By making agriculture fun, engaging, and rewarding, Children’s farm seeks to change perceptions about farming and inspire a new generation of young farmers who see agriculture as a viable and fulfilling career choice.
